using it for 4 I forget so we are so excited thank you so much Kim for being here today and we are we're so grateful so take it away thank you super on Earth students were All Amazed in today so I love when they were super engaged and just had a lot of energy to I still my credential teacher even though I've been doing this whole time about seven years now so I've been doing it just has incredible to see it we've trained over 480000 students to use the digital for good is kind of what we're doing and so excited to be here so let's dive in here and you have any questions please please don't put it in the chat I can see it and then this is being recorded So if you need to go back and play it or if you like it you can be so I'm what are going to be doing is just having this conversation because it is it's like Rihanna guys number teaching your kid how to read and it was really frustrating like it was a slow process Scream the word like the word is book like you wanted to yell at them because it was like so frustrating right it was like man when are they going to learn how to read things that I stood side-by-side with them helping Dakota words and then analyze the story the same thing is happening with these devices you need to sit side-by-side with them and help them decode the message and helping analyze the contact is it positive is it negative is it appropriate is it inappropriate like we have to help this is to understand what is everything is just funny on to them as dark humor is very real so you as a parent Disney to sit side-by-side we work side-by-side with students we believe that you've never worked in front of them knowing more and you definitely should not be behind them so I'm glad there's some parents on here saying like please help me I don't know what to do about YouTube so I'm glad that you're asking the questions because we want you to work side-by-side so one of the things I'm putting in the chat is our parents I'm on it is on it it is questions that you can ask your kid afterwards so we want you to have questions with them it is not do it as a interrogation process meet with you because again we're walking side-by-side so if you're asking it like you really want to know then they're more likely to give you answers but if you try to interrogate them you see them going to freeze up skip over that question and come back to it because a lot of times I do want to tell you that they're too afraid because some simple ways so that when I put in the chat it is the parent guidelines on the second side is questions to ask your kid and if you see the first one is is emotionally available I think about it this was actually sent out to a couple different schools on 310 right and we this is how many people we have I get it being a parent is hard there's some please record it because there's so many parents who have a time like being available so these are the things kids are now being to practice we need to know what to do with it clearly Define limits and guidance response how did it feel to be able to have one of these there's not a real answer if you think about it right to drive a car to get your driver's license told you before that right if you put in the chat you get extra points but the answer is 16 right and everyone knows that answer but no one knows what the answer is to have his device the suggestion age is 13 but I'm even here know someone who is under 13 who has a smartphone like there's so many of them so we're allowing them to break the rules or what are suggest age of there's no guidance and limits of what they're loud right even the number one question I get from lot of times from parents is how much screen time should my kid have and there's a little bit of a true answer because every kid is different even just like every adult is different how many guys in here had to get off the news for a while because it just gets so negative raise and only consume so much negative stuff so everyone is so different on that and same thing with kids but I will give you some suggestions so this is all stuff that kids are being like the bright bright balance I could sleep movement outdoors and down time like these are all things that I'm telling it is and as a credentialed teacher here's the thing I am to be honest and you have homework to do while you're here tonight while you're here you make wait to be here your homework is at the end and put it in the chat or even unmute yourself would you prefer to do that is to tell me what is it you will do what will you do when you leave the session that you got out of bed that you will if you can help as a pet and how you can work side-by-side so honestly it is because the reality is social media is a bad thing. I actually showed this to the students today to make sure the AC because one of the things we talked about with the students is coming to send a text message to send a text message to the wrong person before right and right away you freak out you like oh my gosh what I do this is so embarrassing your anxiety goes up like that's not a bad thing is thing and so awkward you guys got put into a group chat you don't even know who's in the group chat like that's awkward anxiety can go out right there's so many other things. Making those. so we are here to hope to have that conversation and a big thing that parents don't understand is they see things and they go to school the school need to deal with this this it happened at school is happening at someone's house in a garage Burns School tire but for some reason this is been screenshotted now it's the school's problem to take this we need to make sure we're all in this to help each other and that we figure this out. Just be only one person everyone's responsibility is the parents responsibility it is the user I pay the student right responsibilities and yes the school should also help and then the company should also help and we need everyone to do their job and just knowing what the what they're like what you got to realize what the school especially at school and when something does go down online realizes school when there's something problem happening they have to be like this right isn't that they have to kind of go talk to the principal the prince of might have to reach out to the superintendent like there's rules that we have to follow so it takes way longer but unfortunately social media is like this so parents are so used to getting to answer shipment right away and that's not how the process to go through it but you're laying is on that piece right as a parent figured out what you're saying is that you can help your kid focusing on. Been worried about everybody else right because it is it's like we need to teach that this is the things that they're doing they're actually reporting to us about rats right the reporting us about suicide because if you saw the slide 48% of students do not turn to adults for help the reason why French Bulldogs for help one reason is because they're afraid they're going to get in trouble but their devices going to get taken away. Going to be told they can no longer have Tik-Tok or snap right so now their selfishness is holding them back from X-Men helping people turn on read that high school students don't want to help the reason why they don't turn to help is because the old saying snitches get stitches that's been around since we were growing up but my question was back is at what point are you no longer being a snitch when is it okay for me to ask for help these different steps of the bay can actually create positive content and do using that data for good right so our company legally his name now Jennifer good for trying to help students schools right digital for good and how do we do that it's I can help lead which is our internship and mentoring he's we do it with I can help educate and engage with our events we get to celebrate so our mission as a non-profit we are if I go on 3C is to empower soon changemakers remote digital safety and then celebrate because that's the biggest thing adults usually forget about is to celebrate we usually just now watch late like me to see a lot better and we don't actually celebrate so what if you lose a parent this is something you could do and you can say is your I will statement is what if you celebrate when they put their phone down to actually spend time with you oh my gosh thank you for spending quality time that was so nice of you what if you celebrated when they told you about something that was going on like say hey you don't thank you for trusting me to tell me this was going on I know that was hard we celebrate instead of constant talking about negative stuff but like I said we're going to be doing this parent guidelines for putting the check earlier again so you guys if you want to but this will get sent out in a follow up with anything I put the Cha Cha Slide are you okay so the first one is follow friend your child and chat if this is you who is this a yes who in here is a parent who wasn't your kid hangs out with in real life but yes if that is you are you want to know who your kid hangs out with in real life yes exactly then you should be knowing who you hanging out with on social media Staind thing we need to know are they on Instagram are they on dysport going to go through these because you should know how these are being used just like who they're hanging out with how they speaking to each other you should kind of notice do you know who they're hanging right it's YouTube from camera what are you taking pictures up what's up app is a texting thing because a lot of Samsungs and iPhones can't communicate if they have International Friends the great thanks the top number one app right now for this texting good in group chat with Twitter right even Gmail stuff are they using Google documents because can comment and let me tell you there's an X and an appropriate things right Roblox which is a game also in a games is important all of its headsets that can talk and shots are you knowing who they're hanging out with and knows right part of Snapchat inside Snapchat was with called yellow what's that you never do know that's a thing right and then twitch which is like a streaming app for dinner so they watch that happening is b-real is a new one they have so guess where they're hanging out on these I asked at the chat cuz I think it's important to know here's the other interesting fact is the suggested age on most of these except for I know Roblox it's 9 plus most of these are 13 you're supposed to be 13 to be on Instagram on tic toc you're supposed to be 13 to be on Discord but a lot of these kids are using this on that end so just kind of knowing. that's kind of rule right so if you were going to go back when you have guidance and peace and some parents are Consul like when Kim I don't want my kid to have a phone and but their likes and they're saying everyone has a bone I also want Air Jordans I see everyone having Air Jordans cuz I see Air Jordans but if I not looking for Air Jordans am I going to see them right so it's just kind of thing. Yes of course but no OK Google doesn't have a phone is going to be out like when I do not bragging about who actually had some parents who made a campaign quite a few times it says make them wait make them wait till they're 13 to have it make them wait until it's but if you can that's the suggested age find out there under 13 they do take them off it does not matter if they were one of our influencers we work with she's a dance mom star 15 but she had a million followers in her Tik Tok account with 12 got taken down turn 13 she asked for it to come back right cuz he's companies like no we are getting in trouble we need you or help as a parent to make sure that they're appropriate to go see the stuff that is something I'm going to respectfully call out that wouldn't teaching kids correctly when this is what they're asking for on that hp's number two is going over on a regular basis when information should not be shared online or text right this is Sinclair's even adults you shouldn't be sharing if somebody ask me for someone's number I'm not going I'm going to go back them saying hey is it okay if I give her your number to this person that's their private information even passwords a lot of students have their friends passcode to get into people's phone like that because then what they're doing is they're texting somebody from their phone pretending like they're that person and a good enough person in trouble this is their private private thing they kind of understand that and it is we have to kind of reassure them the area we just forget what is Hannah this powerful tool and we forget what we should be telling them colleges in Boise has been looking at what who you know who they are online but they're tired of getting these people are just rude and inappropriate right three examples of people getting rid of them because of what they posted on social media social media is your resume for life even as an adult he was a perfect example you can give your kid as an adult in Airbnb and the first thing they always ask me right now is do you have social I want to go stalk my page to find out am I a partier because now are B&B owners if they have cops come out for noise violations because so many homeowners are tired of having their being having parties if they get rid of free time then there's a listing it pulled off of there being be so Airbnb owners are now being more responsible of their serving who they are renting to their houses so yeah social media has 100% life so using the terminology taking notes right as parents you should use this terminology to your kids and we do it in a fun way of how can you have this conversation with them about what we called digital footprint times more permanent because they can't they can't grasp it so what we do is we suggest you have you ever Googled yourself because you have probably you probably have a good day cuz you're older and there's more they're younger and so when you Google search man I did not know the longest time that I'm actually was a book author and the top selling your account I did not know about me I wish I was making but some author took my name and use that as their book name so when people Google search me they think it's hilarious. It comes as a as a sale on Amazon The People send me a picture of this type and like I even find her sign people autographs if you want to write like it's fun and then you're talking to me right and what what we want out there view number 3 I am not about I'm about privacy conversations with your kid a lot of parents will come in here going I want to control them and I am 100% organic so it's kind of like a diary this is 100% of it would you go and just unlock the key to read the entire thing know but here's the thing how about their room how you can put this is if you if you suspect your kid is doing drugs you suspect your kid are you going to go in there to the room to go check the room for those things right going to go in there and check to see if they have drugs in her drawers they have stuff that have tags on it if you suspect that I'm assuming so same thing should be making sure you check this to make sure they're using it correctly you have all right because honestly that's your pay here of your paying for this and they're miners your lately or liable in some cases for these kind of things so understanding this device is in your nickname and it is in your response because they're miners of what they're doing on this so it is important for you to have these passcodes because here's the thing I had to deal with some really sad cases because I help please I'm still here. They were doing a cute a cute picture. Class of right unfortunate couple of them decide to get together and make this picture where they spelled something different is the parent had and what happens is right away their phone taken away and I'm not saying this one for sure is Extreme but what I'm going to say is like it's apparent had the passcode weather for the kids are taking away than the parent can go on there quickly take it down off their Snapchat story they can help take that stuff down so it doesn't get screen how much and hopefully kind of help I have my parents passwords because they don't know how to block they don't know how to do these things kids do just those kind of conversation a kid you know teachers had no clue because in the hallway he only pulled out just enough time to take this one picture with his friends on Halloween with his friends who are of color and thinking this is funny right and this is made national news over one picture that he put up on a story but now people grabbed it right and it's just this kind of conversation and showing these stories to your kids like this is why I want to have your public media. first and it's for their safety it's not for you to go and search and stock and read their Diaries right like understand up and text messages here's the thing are you the parents please put no if you don't want to do this would you give your kid your credit card and to say here is some limited go use it all you want would you do that would you do that yes or no go spend as much as you want right would you let them every single day going to a buffet be like here go eat as much as you want unlimited eat as much as you want if it wouldn't do that when the same thing goes for this there needs to be some screen time you need to be checking how much screen time they're using how much gaming are doing because what's happening is just like when you eat right and buffets are even Halloween for candy right they get sick they're getting sick there's a lot of mental health issues because we're taking too much screen time or not doing about it as a parent so there's so many things you can do of what you can buy you can monitor I'm glad you thank you for being persistent you're all getting a good job I'm proud of you guys to write so one way is if you have perfect example is your Wi-Fi schools have they have restrictions of school under their Wi-Fi but when the kids go home and they're on your Wi-Fi you need to lock it down you need to set up things so this is example of AT&T sew in this changes constantly and so if you don't know how to do it honestly YouTube as a secret type in whatever server you have if it's a AT&T AT&T Prince of controls all right so what they can do is you can either permitted permitted website especially Courthouse lock that down like if you've not done that you needed that is the first thing I'm going to tell you lock down all the p****** stuff because it is bad habit it is such an addiction it is such a problem second thing is you can actually add more websites that there certain things you want to do you can restrict I'm on their devices you can shut off their Wi-Fi at 10 p.m. there's no reason past 10 be under no one that doing homework and they are man your school so you can lock it down and you can even say they don't get Wi-Fi until I don't know even think 7:30 they don't get Wi-Fi until then so just do simple things as a parent you can help them stacked limits because it's an addiction is 1% a diction they need your help with these addictions right if there's any my brother's an alcoholic and I'm by make sure that there's no alcohol when he's around like that is on BET on me whenever you come to my house Becky there's no alcohol for him so Justice going to peace we need to help with hang if you can pull your phone because I think you should have weekly conversations about their screen time so fun way to do it so if you've never done before an iPhone if you have a Samsung you can type in I believe it's a Wellness Center if you just type it in and it'll pull up what your screen time is and then we put put in it superlo I'm not here to Shane you like oh my God and your time on your device right until remind me 6 hours and minutes it's usually pretty high compared to most people but if you think about it I can then look at what I'm spending my time and I have 4 hours and 49 minutes and I get lost I'm very directionally challenged so this is the thing you can pay me for this so it's making the talking to your kids okay where you spend your time and then I was having a bad day is really high right and I'm just a bill to have it easy way to do that is to put in the chat I'd love to see what you're trying again it brings up great conversation I know it's needed when you have multiple yes it's not that bad Halo like see what you're using it on cuz it could be surprising like oh that's why I had one group of students that one kid was super high and he didn't realize that he had all his notifications on let me help you with that it turned his right another student was like oh I have to watch a YouTube or Netflix before I go to bed and then go dude you constantly complain about how you're tired all the time don't you know that when you have a screen time on that are screen on it makes your brain like you're not supposed to watch screen time an hour before bed so someone's parrot was doing their job and they do think you're not listening but they are because their peers in the sunshine you this is the way the game make a kind of find Whoever has the highest I don't know like just kind of things fun things you can do this is Tik Tok do you know if their accounts are private or public rights and checking is there, private or public is it is is it is private everything belongs to them and they have control control of who they friend who gets to see their stuff I just had a girl who is having major issues they were taking things off of her Instagram page and then taking a picture and then taking it to Tik-Tok and she was like dude you got to go through your followers remove anyone you don't trust so she put in a chair private to remove anyone so cuz she has no control think I don't trust these people didn't take them off because she got tired of people using her pictures right now Laverne Tik-Tok is who can post comments they can choose everyone just their friends or they can say right I can send messages to show these are all things you have over a thing is as a parent you can go to the tiktoks what is the difference is over my kid is here I would have to go there phone to their phone set up their screen time management and then do a restricted mode I didn't earn a passcode don't forget the passcode to the end change it right you can't ask her three sets again remember the code and then you enable the restricted mode so it makes them have that piece if you want a lot of parents do you want their naps there certain apps that I think you're nice one so you guys can look it up when it's cold I think it's called I think it's I think it's spelled this way and if you like you can pay for the bigger things that when you can actually restricted from your phone so like a lot of people have done this app and from your phone if they are not behaving you can turn on Tik-Tok right you can turn off and then if they do there where is an egg dinner homework and you're like okay you can get rewarded you turn the Talkback on from your device so that is really really cool I think I'd like to take a restriction mode that Tik Tok is during the put in make sure you look at the parent we've actually created a church here's what's not this dead snapping answer my pretty similar I'm very excited about their work and so this is what they've done is the difference is that we had my child Hey Zoe has Snap-on and I have snap on my phone I have my own account is a parent by then have to invite Zoe and my family center ones though except my invites for my family center this is my View Park View versus StudentVue I get to cm a person's do is sending messages to or who's she's getting messages from I don't see the messages that's too controlling is why I didn't call Family Center but as a family were seeing who are getting messages from you also see what time they're getting messages from so they're saying it at 2 a.m. with the water middle school students are getting it is great for them to be able to see this so then you can have that conversation like hey you need to let you know Levi Levi Levi no you can't get messages at 2 a.m. and then also you can also see it at they should be messed with Carlos Boozer who is Carlos Boozer and perspectives report I love it right y'all know that was awesome yeah this is this is a great thing to be able to have on that end cuz it just is is nice and the other ones are things in there I think it's the other one that people exactly the other one I think there's one called that a lot of parents are buying and what that says text messages with keywords it'll send them a text message with you no inappropriate words it sends a messages now here's a fun fun thing that I don't wants to know about a lot of parents will do it for the free I think it's like a 6-month trial after the six months they keep showing their pee I can see what you're texting I can see your messages after 6 months they actually don't pay the money and then they don't need to tell her kid because they've trained them like love I can see you and the kids still thinks that you can see those text messages so okay perfect thanks Italian secret information that a base that's awesome that's great is Verizon has a kid plan to help you also with to make those things locked down so I know another great special. Bees for potential signs of abuse and addiction because again 50% of them are addicted so this story I did actually share the students in the presentation is bailing viral and how did your day go is she's getting dressed and she's the great and then later on someone takes a picture of the back of her legs a circle in a caption pick my name is actually think this is pretty messed up right now all the students to raise their hand I said but he was not one person went to Dylan who's on it supposed to rain today this happened to her on a regular daily basis you train people bio be treated by how you allow others to be treated you guys know people go taking pictures or videos of people that do or don't know just for their entertainment I even know. They're doing it we need to end this habit of taking pictures for your own personal humor like this is not okay from behind wherever those are like creeper shots not respecting people's privacy how to protect other people's privacy is important things to teach ourselves and our students I've got your back are you okay not one of them was taking screenshots to turn to adults is again the whole snitches get stitches or fear of getting their device taken away we need to take them yes you need to take screenshots get this into me because I didn't tell her mom's going on right now her mom's annoying you what you got on she doesn't say to her I'm in the Drive-Thru now I'll be there in 7 minutes to choose so just make Michigan State is how to be a first responder not going to see everything you're not going to see everything I need to make sure that your train them on how to beat into the First Responders if they do see at what can I do they don't just drove past me like that's messed up that's messed up like we need to teach him how to be a digital First Response just like a car accident so just make sure report when you make sure he respectfully call it out we need to we take screenshot turn into a little those are all stats can you make screen monitor having having them conversations about how they control their device into the vacant right now there's an adult's to reject anybody want to and that you're addicted to your device but in the chat call yourself out it's okay there's no shame in here is just for you to be able to say like yes I'm addicted because then it's the second step is actually doing something about it what can you do about it start changing you how this is how thank you for thanks for yourself out so something that I've done all my group chats was the best thing in the world is like mine I do this a long time ago write a text and ask my friends please do not put me in any group I don't like them big make my phone blow up and it just has a lot of them it's a lot and I don't need a lot in my life right on that works for me what works for you should have with your kid ask them because what works for you might not work for them I have a friend who does this and I think it's great it doesn't work for me and I'll tell you why they don't look at their phone phone the first thing when they wake up they do not live there like it's the best thing ever I don't look at my phone until after I've had breakfast everything done that is not worth it doesn't work I mean here's a reason why I have nieces who live in Stockholm Sweden it's a nine hours difference so when I wake up that's the first thing I look at because I want to send them a message if they sent me something but we have we only have a certain amount of window that we can can right. Quite a number for me to have this conversation I love a Candy Crush Clash of Clans game that if you went so many things you can get a win a free hotel stay but there's times I've had it like lock myself down and there's times I purposely will delete the app off cuz I've got so addicted that I'm like nope and I delete it and then I'll days of me like I can't do this anymore I'll redownload it and thank you for calling your cell but you can't teach your kid like you're not perfect two I can't today so Oscar can about it because this is great to know you can take a screenshot everyone everyone's life is so it's simple things of how to create emotional first aid kit to get you through when you're sad when you're depressed overwhelming when you're having anxiety when you're all these different emotions are going through so the first one is sounds hey what's the song that can spark Joy ask your kid because but they're having a hard day when they come home if you said hey Alexa Play the song and it's just fun right read out knowing what their songs are and then also yes if this is getting record it so yeah it is a song or do you want I pick you up right this kind of interesting thing so those are something that they instantly see its perks. dude I love the sight of food right usually it's their bed a certain thing like they just love there's a certain thing that they love seeing what their screensaver screensaver says what about them I do that constantly changing my screensaver right that their generation being taught how to talk about my doll number for smells what are their favorite smells what are smells are joined with the snow that called them it is medically proven that lavender and mint calm down so you can teach them even teach yourself if you put I have a lavender and load the best thing ever I put it on my hands on my neck and on my feet in the morning because it totally does help me calm myself down if I'm nervous about anything it helps me that the other one that a lot of people don't realize this by baking so when your kid is stressed out what if you bake them their favorite food or smell like it just really does make a huge difference humans you you might not be there human and that's okay my mom is not my human here's the reason why my mom is like the biggest Warrior like she has so much anxiety like she's actually have had a lot of mental health issues so she knows I don't go to her but she asked me hey I know this is a week are you talking to someone else and yes I have thank you for checking on me Mom I think it's important that a big one that I love telling students is a I asked my friends I always ask them because I don't want to burden people with my problems but I want to burden people I was asking before hey can I vent to you for 4 minutes and I would give me some time. and then after 4 minutes I feel so much better but I always ask for permission cuz I don't want just emotionally dump on them and make sure that they're in a place with a girl I can't handle it today and that's okay I like no problem especially after games when they lose what if you just as a family that's been for 4 minutes and then you start talk about positive stuff because I'm his parents especially for games after sporting event stuff they keep talking about the negativity and keep talking about the problem and it's not teaching kids good behaviors right so they are sad or lonely take some power back those are real emotion validate them but then it is like hey let's go do something else let's go for a walk let's go big let's go in a clean your room I don't like doing things that we can do is check the Privacy right there privacy settings so you don't have to that kids are going to do is I'm going to go to your camera roll so the newcomer also about I am going to do we're going to do is call the photo roulette so what we're going to be like this find a kid when I say stop in a land on whatever photo base is going to go to sleep whenever I see stopped going to land on a photo pop-up open for me okay so go ahead and start without your deposit open now look at it look at it and then with your kids you would tell them explain yourself you're making it fun and kind of see what they're but they're taking pictures of was a fun way to see what they're taking pictures of and explain yourself and do it with you everyone has to do this now the next step is once you're here swipe up and when you swipe up thank you for showing me yours Amanda yeah because they don't see if your locations are on when you swipe up my locations are on I can see exactly when I took the picture it says times and dates and bugs it or go up to see how 9 you can see my time date everything get there you go so yeah and then locations on there should be if there's none of my add location from my locations are on so I can see exactly where I was when I took this picture now on you can see you can see my mom take a picture to write realizing if I send this to carry on if I send this picture to her I text it to her boyfriend because I have her number and everything if she says it and then she starts that she can see where it's at that's kind of cool like cuz I do travel a lot but the interesting thing is going to be creepy yes so knowing that you did they don't want to  this to people if locations are on so they need to make sure enter locations on or not so as a family to Funway organifi it for you so you can see if you can have that conversation I love that we're getting thank you Hazel yeah yeah so again this is all to everyone so all their friends can see them when they're on vacation because they want to see what their friends are at during vacation cuz sometimes they go go meet up for coffee and things like that when I don't know it's pretty cool like how students are using it I've had students use it because they go on dates and they're like I want my friends to know where I'm at like they stalk me this way so it's locations are fun they can be used in a negative way have a conversation that might help having to use locations in a good way so if you're in doubt there's a people get creeped out by their families if you're in doubt you just ask Jesus. okay again it goes back to you I know you're kidding.
